With lyrics that will shock, and flamboyant uniforms, this season The Damsl will bring a wide eye to audiences everywhere.
Born in Detroit, going back and forth to Grandma’s house in Hamtramck,(the city that puts the “D” in Detroit), to her home in the suburbs, The Damsl got a taste of it all.
Penning her first song in the shower as just a wee tot,
“I was surprised and delighted to find myself at 8 years old writing my first tune. It was a love song I ended up sending to Miss Piggy and Kermit!”
Grandma Bernice would love to sit and listen to her play on the piano; there , the love grew. But there was also a lot of anger and fighting during high school, ”
It was door slams and arguing, day after day. I went to school with a putrid face, being around the rage changed me, physically “.
Still, the talent was raw, and The Damsl landed a talent manager in NYC, flying back and forth to the big Apple, eventually landing roles opposite stars like Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin.
I was still pretty blocked –all the fighting locked my body up. I was very involved in acting and then met acting coach, (Bobbi Berger) who helped me breakthrough with this magical exercises that Stripped you the core at each session.
I picked up a pen and started writing music again. That work took me straight to my long lost heart and that’s where the music key was sitting”
The Damsl then sat on the subway with a different heartbeat- writing to the beat of the tracks,
“I had 100 songs spewed allover my apartment by the end of that summer. I could barely keep it in order!”.
Almost immediately thereafter, she was discovered by Wendy Startland, talent scout for Lady Gaga, and later by Atlantic A&R in New York City.
